The Power of Words
Starting Each Day With A Little Thinking...Selfless
An interesting combination of two words. Self’s easy — you! Less in this instance can be read in two ways. First, you can look at it as “not quite as much”. Second, you can look at it as “not there at all”. And interestingly, both ways of reading “less” provide interesting perspectives.
To be the most effective individual you can, you must realize that it’s about more than you. That means focusing on others first. That means focusing on yourself not quite so much. Selfless version one. An important lesson that I must relearn all too often.
To really make an impact, your vision and ideas need to be absorbed by those around you. Your impact will only be felt when folk’s behaviors support that vision in your absence. When you yourself are totally absent. Selfless version two. A lasting impact occurs when you’re looking to help others function on their own and not looking to have it be all about you.
Regardless of which way you look at selfless, the key is to realize that when you’re looking at yourself it had better be in the context of how to help others…
With that in mind:
How are you doing in your quest to become a bit more selfless?
As always, thanks for the time.

Blog Challenge Day 18
On day one of the challenge, the first words I wrote were:
- As the old song goes “I get by with a little help from my friends”.
I must have had a copy of Natalie’s topic lists and been thinking ahead to today’s prompt:
- What does your dream sales team look like and how will you ensure they help you build your business?
Perhaps I’m oversimplifying the situation, but my sales strategy is simple:
- There’s no better way to sell than through referrals.
- And there’s no better way to get referrals than to provide incredible value.
Putting in action the steps of the blog challenge up until this point (determine your audience and objective, focus on execution, build great content, connect with those in your space) is a simple, effective, proven strategy that is where I’ll start from a “sales strategy” standpoint.

Pace
Some folks think we move too fast. Others think we move too slowly. However, what’s important is not “too fast” or “too slow”. It’s making sure that the pace you are pursuing is correct for you. While “correct” is subjective, I’d argue that the “correct” pace for each of us is just fast enough that we’re on the verge of serious discomfort. Think about that for a moment…..
If we’re comfortable, chances are that we’re really not changing or doing much. Not good. If we’re a little bit uncomfortable, we’re at least moving. When we get just shy of serious discomfort, we’re right there below the “red line”. That’s the pace where our engines can run for a long time without doing any damage. To carry on with the car analogy, each of us have multiple gears (i.e. the ability to rebalance/shift focus to/from different activities) that allow our speed (read rate of progress) to be different, but keeps the engine at the same pace as it’s still right below the red-line level.
With that in mind:
What’s your pace of your personal engine?
As always, thanks for the time.

Blog Challenge Day 17
Today Natalie asks us to think about our on-line reputation:
- What three steps can you take to build trust and credibility online for you, your brand and your business?
Lost of possibilities here. Think I’ll go with:
- Back on Day 6 of the challenge I flagged identifying 20 individuals on-line, related to my focus area to build relationships with. That’s got to be the first priority. As an aside, actions one and three from Day 6 should also help in this space.
- I need to find a way to get published elsewhere. Having that social proof would be huge to establishing trust and credibility.
- I need to either come up with or work with someone to come up with a crisp design + begin using a lot more images. Folks relate to images a lot better than they do words.
