The Power of Words
Starting Each Day With A Little Thinking...Content
Today I’m going to focus on the state of being known as “content”. My guess is that you’ll have one of two reactions when I refer to someone as “content”:
- How can he/she NOT push himself harder / stand to remain in their current situation? I’ll never understand how some folks are so content.
- It’s great to see him/her so content. I’m really happy for him/her
It’s not my place to judge whether either of the reactions is better or worse. It is my hope that by pointing out the two possible reactions, you might consider the alternative to YOUR reaction.
With that in mind:
How do you look at being content?
As always, thanks for the time.

Start
Isn’t it fun to make plans? To lay out the elaborate action plan that’s going to get us to the desired end state. To picture us in the new state where everything is just great. To envision the future where we are in control of our own destiny. Yep all good things. And the process of creating things twice – first mentally, then physically (from Steven Covey) – is one that I subscribe to 100%. But ultimately you have to get off your backside and start.
Creating a mental picture of our desired end state is a key first step in achieving that end state. However, all too often we get stuck in the planning phase and are hesitant to move to the action phase. Normally that hesitation is driven by fear. Guess what? That fear is normal!!! Guess what? The fear is going to diminish greatly as soon as we start!!!! Guess what? You’ll never get to that end state unless you start!!!
With that in mind:
- Why not start today?

Relief
Plop plop, fizz fizz, oh what a relief it is. No, I’m not going to write an Alka Seltzer advertisement today. But, I am going to focus in on the topic of relief. There are four ways that we can get relief from a situation:
- The situation can go away on its own / resolve itself
- Someone can intervene and resolve the situation
- We can take some action and resolve the situation
- We can accept the situation and learn to deal with it
What’s interesting is how many folks focus on the first two (going away / someone fixing it) versus the second two (taking control / dealing with the situation).
Ultimately it’s up to each one of us to decide how we’ll find relief from the pains that trouble us. For me, I much prefer the taking control and/or dealing with the situation approach. Relying on someone or something else to provide me relief just doesn’t make sense.
With that in mind:
How will you take relief?
As always, thanks for the time.

Land
With everything that goes on in our busy lives today, it’s inevitable that we will fall. The interesting thing is the different ways that people land when they fall.
Some folks land hard. They hit the ground with a solid thud. Bones are broken and the recovery time is long. Others tuck, roll, and bounce up from the fall almost unscathed. They always land on their feet. Why is that?
I’d offer this. Some folks don’t believe they’ll ever fail. Therefore they don’t make plans for it. They aren’t ready for it. And they land hard. Others know they will fail. They plan for it. They get used to it. They land softly as falling is normal and simply part of the process.
Failures part of the process. It’s natural. It’s healthy. It’s productive. And it’s inevitable. How you plan and respond to the failure will dictate how you land.
With that in mind:
How will you land when you fail?
As always, thanks for the time.
