The Power of Words
Starting Each Day With A Little Thinking...Clarity
Today I’m back on the topic of the amazing mind. Some days I can’t get my mind to stop spinning. There’s so many things that I could do, that I should, that I want to do, that figuring out that finding clarity on the next step is challenging. It’s just out of reach.
And then it happens. You notice a picture, you hear a song, someone says something totally unrelated to anything on your mind. And click, you suddenly have total clarity on what your next step should be.
What happened? It’s simple. Methaphorically speaking, you stopped talking and started listening. When you’re telling yourself about all of the things you HAVE to do, you’re not listening to what your mind is telling you. The external stimuli of a song, picture, or voice causes you to shift from the talking mode to the listening mode. That’s when your mind’s voice speaks up and the next step becomes clear. That’s why so many people recommend starting your day with a bit of quiet time, a bit of prayer, or a bit of meditation.
Sometimes doing nothing is the best way to accomplish something.
With that in mind:
Where will you find clarity?
As always, thanks for the time.

Crazy
You’ve come up with a brilliant idea. You’re all excited. You share it with someone. And it happens — they look at you and ask:
“Are you crazy?”
And the chicken inside of you takes over. You discard the idea and move on. Who was I to think that I actually could do something like that?
Self-doubt’s and ugly thing. The reality is those that are challenging you with “Are you crazy?” are more than likely the ones who are insane. You come up with a new idea when you see something that you want to change or do differently. In that moment of clarity you recognize that there is a different way of doing things. And you’ve seen a new path. You’re ready to pursue it, but you need just a little bit of encouragement from someone else to confirm that you are NOT crazy. Think about this for a moment. You’re ready to make an impact. You’ve thought of something new. You are convinced it will work. And you turn to another that tells you to quit thinking outside the box, do the same thing, and expect different results. That’s the text book definition of insanity: doing the same thing and expecting different results.
So the next time that small idea turns in to a an actionable thought, don’t spend the time asking someone “What do you think?”. Take the first step and trust that your subconscious is a lot smarter than you could ever give it credit for.
With that in mind:
When was the last time you went a little crazy?
As always, thanks for the time.

Attitude
I’m not sure where I heard it, but one of my favorite sayings is “Your attitude controls your altitude”. So true. So easy. Yet so hard.
Let’s face it, sometimes you’re just having a shiXXy day!!! It’s easy in those moments to have your attitude turn negative and fall in to the “woe is me” trap. Amazingly, as soon as you declare it so, it becomes so. And how often is it the case that right when you are convinced the world is conspiring against you, you receive a phone call, talk to a friend, or something positive happens? Suddenly all is right with the world. What changed? Nothing more than your attitude. It’s just that simple.
Folks, the only reality that exists is the one that is in our minds. And that’s one that we each have 100% control of. And the foundation of this control is our attitudes. It’s a simple lesson that many — myself included!!! — need to remind themselves about on a continual basis.
With that in mind:
How’s your attitude?
As always, thanks for the time.

Less
We’re all swamped with a huge number of “to do’s”. But how many of these items are REALLY important? How many would make a difference if they never were accomplished/completed? Or how many would really suffer if they were scheduled out in the future.
Multi-tasking sounds really cool, but the reality is it’s VERY challenging and often counterproductive. Most times it pays to narrow your focus on a few important tasks. In so doing, you are able to accomplish these tasks completely. It’s one of life’s true ironies that by focusing on doing less you actually do more.
With that in mind:
What do you need to spend less time doing?
As always, thanks for the time.
