The Power of Words

Starting Each Day With A Little Thinking...

Voice

My guess is that you can recognize the voice of your spouse, kids, friends and family in a heartbeat; and, they can do the same with you.
However, what you may not have considered is that there are actually TWO voices that you can recognize for each individual.  The first is the one that comes to us through our ears.  It’s the vocal pattern that we hear.  That’s the one most of us think of when we speak of voices.  However, it’s the second voice that is the really important one.  That second voice is the one that delivers the message about  who we are.  It’s the voice that includes:

  • Whether we are positive or negative in how we approach situations
  • Whether we provide encouragement or discouragement to others
  • Whether we speak well or speak poorly of others
  • Whether we act consistently with the first voice

It’s this second voice that defines who we are.  And it’s the one that folks listen to the most closely.  It’s the one that really communicates your personal message.

With that in mind:

  • How good is your voice?

As always, thanks for the time.

Repeat

Today’s inspiration comes from a shampoo bottle:

  • Lather, rinse repeat

Profound isn’t it?  Okay, so it’s not exactly on par with my Newton or Einstein quotes.  However, it’s no less useful.  Sometimes you’ll fail.  But that doesn’t mean you should give up the fight.  Each time you fail you learn a little bit more.  You move a little bit closer.  That’s why it’s so important to repeat.  Yes it’s painful.  but it does pay off eventually.

So the next time you’re fretting, remember what you read on your shampoo bottle.  It may be simplistic, but it’s very effective

With that in mind:

  • Why not repeat?

As always, thanks for the time.

Open

Today I’m keeping it short and sweet….  Some words just make you feel good.  Open is one of them:

  • It was so much fun on Christmas morning watching the kids open their presents.
  • She’s so open to new ideas
  • We opened up the windows to air out the house
  • We went to opening day

Open carries with it the connotation of something new, something fresh.  That’s the reason that open is looked upon so favorably:  we each have a desire deep inside to experience new things, to get a fresh start.  The paradox here is that because we are NOT always open minded, we don’t see — and therefore don’t sieze — the new opportunities when they appear before us.  This leads us to be less open and the cycle becomes self repeating.

With that in mind:

  • Isn’t it time you opened your mind to a new possibility?

As always, thanks for the time.

Shoulders

Today we turn to Mr. Isaac Newton for inspiration.  He gave us the following:

  • If I have seen further it is by standing on the shoulders of Giants

Each of us faces our own personal set of challenges.  That’s the reality of life.  But we don’t always need to face these challenges alone.  Rather, we have our colleagues, friends and families who will — and do — support us.  And often we are able to stand on their shoulders when we face the challenges that seem too confusing or too big.

However, some times we face challenges we MUST face alone.  It is then that we must “stand on our own” shoulders.  Each of us has our head sitting squarely on top of our shoulders.  Our head literally and figuratively stands on our shoulders.  And that’s the key.  While we would like to believe that we can “think our way to a solution”, it’s often the case that our rational mind doesn’t house the answer.  Rather, the answer is housed inside of our heart and soul.  It’s housed within all of those experiences that we have had.  And we need to recognize that the shoulders of our feelings, the shoulders of our experiences, the shoulders of our heart often provide the necessary support to stand on when we are faced with difficult decisions.  While our logical mind has a ton of power, those experiences we have endured often provide the foundation for what we can and will become.  Those experiences provide the shoulders on which we can stand.

With that in mind:

  • Are you ready to stand on your own shoulders?

As always, thanks for the time.
